HMRC authenticator for accounting teams
HMRC multi-factor authentication means every agent sign-in needs a password and a 6-digit access code. FeedRecorder lets your whole practice use one shared authenticator, so codes are never stuck on one person's phone.
How it works
- Choose an authenticator app in your HMRC sign-in settings and copy the setup key.
- Add the key to FeedRecorder and choose who can see the code.
- Team members open FeedRecorder, copy the current code and sign in.
Questions
Does FeedRecorder store our Government Gateway passwords?
No. The authenticator only stores the setup key HMRC gives you, encrypted with AES-256. Your user IDs and passwords stay with you.
Which logins does it work with?
Any HMRC login where you choose an authenticator app for access codes, including agent services, corporation tax, self assessment, VAT and PAYE. It also works with Xero, QuickBooks, Microsoft 365 and any other site that supports authenticator apps.
Can several people sign in at the same time?
Yes. The codes are time based, so everyone with access sees the same current code and can sign in from their own computer.
What happens when someone leaves?
Remove their FeedRecorder access and they can no longer see any codes. Team members never see the setup key. Change the site's password as usual.
How much does it cost?
The Authenticator plan is £5 a month per practice for your whole team, and the first month is free. Practice Monitor, which adds client monitoring, is £25 a month.
